Welcome to my blog! I am a sophomore in high school, and I created this blog to spread awareness about the policy issues women and other marginalized groups face globally. I am interested in learning more and discussing this topic because of my prior experiences at multiple nonprofits and learning more about the injustice women face.
As previously stated, I have volunteered at many nonprofits and organizations, many of which help provide women in underdeveloped countries with proper resources and supplies: birth kits, financial aid, and funds for their education. While working with these various organizations, I found out that governments in these underdeveloped countries do not provide women and many other marginalized groups with these resources, resulting in economic injustice and harsh living conditions. This fueled my interest in learning more about the government policies associated with healthcare and education.
I later decided to write a blog exploring these challenges to spread awareness about the lack of healthcare and education policies for women worldwide. In this blog, I will explore the economic challenges women face around the world and my perspective to help bridge these gaps within society.
One of the first nonprofits I worked with was Global Health Charity. I first started to volunteer at their charity galas and make birth kits. Later, I procured an internship with them during the summer. During this internship, one of the first things I learned was about the issues women face in 3rd world countries when giving birth and the harmful effects the mother and child would endure due to the lack of access to hospitals or supplies. Learning about this motivated me to learn more about the healthcare policies women face in these countries. This is why I started researching more about how large of a scope this problem is and what factors contribute to this. While researching, I found out that over 2/3 of women face healthcare access problems, and the majority of women who face these problems are women who are divorced/widowed, single mothers, household sizes, and rural residents.
However, most of these problems are linked to specific regions. Although this problem remains in multiple countries, there are a few countries where women's access to healthcare is challenged due to the government policies in said regions. These regions include Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
Throughout this blog, I plan on discussing individual countries and their lack of policies towards women and share my ideas about potential solutions to these problems. I look forward to going in depth about my journeys and research about policy in different countries!
